the return

hello everyone, i have returned. so how about some updates, huh?

i recently made the big switch from windows 10 to linux mint 21, and so far, it's been great. some problems arose here and there, but overall it's been a good time. i like the fact that it's open-source and lightweight (at least linux mint is...) and i've had some experience with linux before with a raspberry pi 3 and 4, so the terminal and the file system wasn't completely foreign to me. i'm kind of glad i shook things up a bit with my computer's operating system, it was getting a bit drab over at windows, and it's always nice to learn something new.

i'm also planning on using my drawing tablet i got for my birthday more. it's been sitting there collecting dust, so i think it's about time to bust it out and give it a shot again, last time i used it i was put off by the way it felt to draw and not have a screen attached to it (yeah it's one of those 'no-screen' drawing tablets).

i downloaded a program called 'OpenToonz', it's basically an animation program that is free and open-source, so no worrying about licenses or paying a big subscription fee just to use the damn thing (i'm looking at you, adobe!!) and i'm contemplating whether or not to start animating again. while i do love the art of animation, the process is a cruel, difficult and time-consuming thing. i have a project in mind, but i'm not entirely sure if i want to go through with it or not, i might just stick with small projects, but i just want something to do with my free time. i like to draw, so animating would be the next step in the right direction i think.

i played a pretty damn good homebrew game

so i played a ps1 homebrew game called "Magic Castle" by Kaiga on my raspberry pi and i was blown away. i was expecting a small project, but i was pleasantly surprised at how addicting it was. usually homebrew games (or games made in a bedroom from some guy named Stuart) don't really have much replay value and are seen as one-off titles for developers to just dip their toes into a system's architecture. but magic castle was actually pretty damn fun. the premise is this: you can choose between 4 classes, a knight, a wizard, a fighter and an archer. each class has their own attributes and playing styles, but they all do the job well. you can play with 3 other friends, and once you start the game you will be thrusted into a castle floor. the fun part is that each castle floor is randomized! so each play is going to be different than the last, in the game you fight different monsters, whether it be slimes, bats, or random jerboa-lookin-things. and you gain money or experi

back to windows... 11!

 i guess i'm just a microsoft plebeian because i went back to windows about around a month after the last post. it's windows 11, and contrary to what people say, it's not bad at all. it's bloated, but you can uninstall some stuff with a third-party application. that being said, linux is still a great alternative. it's just not super supported by my favorite apps and such and is a little awkward to get used to, so it's not for me. but it could be for you, so give it a shot. there are plenty of revisions and versions of linux. also, i caved in and bought a steam deck! i've been researching about it and i've purchased one. it's gonna be real fun playing steam/pc games on the go. i wonder what i will be doing with it when i get it... anyways that's all. i will see you later (hopefully soon!) - camryn185
